
Help us help more animals by becoming a volunteer!
WHS volunteers are an integral part of our shelter operations, and they contribute to the care of the shelter’s animals in a variety of ways. We are grateful for each and every volunteer and the gifts of their time and talent!
OPPORTUNITIES

FELINE ATTENDANT
Attend to every fundamental need of our feline friends until they find their forever homes. Responsibilities include cleaning cages, feeding, providing water and lots of attention to our sweet felines.

CANINE COMPANION
Be a pal to the pups while they wait for their special families. Responsibilities include dog walking, bathing and spending time together in the yard. Dog walkers must be 18 and complete training with our Behavior Coordinator.

SHELTER SUPPORT CREW
Support us by helping us with the most important assignments, which include preparation for daily opening by sweeping, mopping, doing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning litter boxes, etc.

SHELTER IMPROVEMENT CREW
Our gardening and maintenance volunteers are the folks with green thumbs, carpentry, plumbing or maintenance skills. We benefit from their skills all year long!

SPECIAL EVENTS ASSISTANT
Work closely with shelter leadership and marketing manager to coordinate and staff various special events. Events include rabies clinics, pictures with Santa & more!

FUNDRAISING ASSISTANT
Assist shelter leadership with various fundraising activities such as charity events, silent auctions, obtaining donations and much more.

Flexi-Teer
Support the shelter on an as needed basis by providing assistance with special tasks and projects, odd jobs, and more for limited periods of time.

DRIVER
Our volunteers behind the wheel transport animals to vet appointments at area clinics, pick up donation items, and deliver items as needed. Must be at least 18 years old, have a valid drivers and a clean driving record.

YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
At this time, volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer independently at the shelter. Volunteer applications from youth ages 14-17 will be considered if certain criteria are met. Please refer to the application for more details.
REQUIREMENTS
- All volunteers are required to commit to at least 6 months of service with Watertown Humane Society. At this time, we are not able to provide any court-ordered volunteering opportunities.
- At the end of orientation, we ask new volunteers to pay a $25 volunteer investment fee in exchange for their official WHS Volunteer T-Shirt and name badge!
- We are limiting the amount of volunteers in the shelter, and therefore have limited volunteer opportunities at this time. We will keep your application on file for six months and contact you as positions become available.

Please let us know if you have any other special talents or skills! Volunteers and their contributions are an essential part of our operations. Our hardworking and friendly staff members are very appreciative of all volunteers!
